Reading Group: Forward Prize for Best Single Poem

Spend an evening with the Forward Prize Best Single Poem shortlist at Borderless Books in Stroud as we continue to mark the National Year of Reading.

Together we’ll read, unpick and argue for the lines we love (and hate?) looking at how each poem works, where it risks and what makes it award‑worthy. Reading groups give people a place to practise attention - to sit with complexity, ambiguity and difference, all of which we will celebrate and explore in this session.

This is a one‑off, in‑person workshop for readers and writers who want to sharpen their instincts and feel the pulse of contemporary poetry with their bare hands!

The Forward Prize for Best Single Poem recognizes outstanding individual poems, with recent winners showcasing diverse voices and themes in contemporary poetry.

This year’s shortlist includes five poems by Tara Bergin, Kizziah Burton, Alexandra Corrin-Tachibana, Fiona Larkin and Riwa Saab. You can read all of these poems online here.

The group will be led by poet JLM Morton.

Monday 21st September, 6p - 8pm

Borderless Books, 4 London Road, Stroud.
