Summer Poetry Walks at Dusk with Philp Rush

Join Philip Rush on these poetry walks at dusk near Stroud, Gloucestershire: Woodchester, Avening & Edgeworth.

Walks, poems, conversation and as yet unknown enchantments. Join for one or all three walks.

Edgeworth is hidden in the last folds of the Severn basin (going east from here it’s all Thames to the sea); A E Housman loved this walk in Woodchester even though it is neither in Shropshire nor particularly laddish; the Avening walk takes in a sneak visit to a standing stone on Royal farmland. What can possibly go wrong?

Each walk is three-miles, give or take, which take about an hour and a half. Every so often, at appropriate ‘stations’ in the walk, we stop to hear a poem related in some way to our surroundings. Each route has been chosen not only for its beauty and benefits but also so that it is as safe as possible as the night draws in, with clear paths at the end, or throughout, the walk.

Sometimes, we venture to the pub afterwards.

Woodchester, Tuesday 15th July, 7.30pm (Sunset 9pm)

Avening, Wednesday 13th August, 7.30pm (Sunset 8.30pm)

Edgeworth, September 4th September 7.30pm (Sunset 7.30pm)

Each walk is £12, or £30 for all three (booking below)

Philip Rush writes about walks and vinyl LPs, stone circles, and so on. “He’s quirky, funny, thoughtful, entertaining. He shares what feels like the perfect phrase as though he’d picked it up while walking in the woods” (Friday Poem).
