Elements: a creative writing workshop looking at the ways prose and poetry have explored the ancient elements of earth, air fire and water. Five sessions online with Philip Rush.
Each Elements session will include prose and poetry for discussion, which will in due course prompt some original work, in either prose or verse, from each member of the group. These will be discussed in the next session. An outline of the workshops is given below.
Session One
An introductory discussion about prose and verse, about their similarities and differences.
Close reading of two examples, one in prose and one in verse, where writers address ‘earth’.
Session Two
Close reading of two examples, one in prose and one in verse, where writers address ‘fire’.
Shared reading and workshopping of work on ‘earth’ from members of the group. You will be asked to send these, electronically, to the group beforehand.
Session Three
Close reading of two examples, one in prose and one in verse, where writers address ‘air’.
Shared reading and workshopping of work on ‘fire' from members of the group. You will be asked to send these, electronically, to the group beforehand.
Session Four

Session Five

And then, to conclude the series, each member of the group will be invited to read work which has been prompted by the sessions and which is approaching completion.
