The Rebel Star Part 1 (Vue Cinema)

When I was eleven, I met a woman from the stars. She burned in and out of my life, bright as the shining things she guarded, and was gone as quickly as she came.

I lived in town, hiking up the hill to school and playing with friends in the park. There were sunsets on the brick houses, shopping trips, sweet treats, picking blackberries. Days that all seemed the same, full of bribes.

But things started to change that summer. If my parents noticed it, they said nothing. But I watched the shooting stars when they were busy at work, glancing up from the glowing square of the TV. And I thought, between the adverts, that there were too many stars.

One night, my mum kissed me on the cheek and left the sweet scent of her perfume, clicking on her heels to the door. My dad was already out. They were forever leaving me to an evening of TV. I think they both had very important jobs.

A star went arcing across the sky in a brilliant streak of silver. I uncurled to my feet and walked to the glass doors. And then a woman fell into my garden.
